LONDON, April 10, 2018 — IT spending from line-of-business (LOB) will reach $191 billion in Western Europe in 2018, a 5.7% increase over 2017, according to International Data Corporation's (IDC) latest update of the Worldwide Semiannual IT Spending Guide: Line of Business. IDC forecasts that Western European business-funded spending will grow at a 5.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2016 and 2021. In comparison, IT-funded technology spending will grow at a slower pace, with a 2.1% five-year CAGR — meaning that business managers will invest more aggressively over the years. While IT departments will remain the biggest funding source in 2018, funding 52% of technology investments, LOBs will catch up by 2021 and will fund 50% of the overall spending in Western Europe ($222 billion).

Flexible Consumption Models Becoming More Attractive Options for European Organisations, Reports IDC
FRANKFURT, March 12, 2018 — International Data Corporation's (IDC) recently released EMEA Datacenter Hardware Infrastructure Consumption Models report reviews datacenter spending trends and various vendor consumption models offered to European organisations. As shown in the table below, between 2016Q1 and 2017Q3 Private and Public Cloud increased from 26.9% to 34.3% of total EMEA infrastructure spend. IDC predicts cloud spending will outpace Traditional IT growth as organizations move to place resources on cloud platforms and take advantage of new applications offered through cloud integration.
FRANKFURT, March 7, 2018 — International Data Corporation's (IDC) EMEA Server Tracker shows that in the fourth quarter of 2017 the EMEA server market reported a year-on-year (YoY) increase in vendor revenues of 17.4% to $4.2 billion and a YoY increase of 0.1% in units shipped to 596,000. Looking at the EMEA market in euros, reported revenues in 4Q17 increased by 7.5% YoY to €3.6 billion. The top 5 vendors in EMEA and their revenues for the quarter are displayed in the table below.
LONDON, March 7, 2018 — Total EMEA external storage systems value increased by 11.7% in dollars in the fourth quarter of 2017 (+2.4% in euros), according to International Data Corporation's (IDC) EMEA Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker, 4Q17.
LONDON, March 5, 2018 — Shipments of Western European personal computing devices (PCDs), including traditional PCs (a combination of desktops, notebooks, and workstations) and tablets (slates and detachables), will total 76.3 million in 2018, a 3.3% YoY decline (-3.0% in 2019 with 74.0 million shipments). However, strong demand in enterprises will lead to growth in the commercial segment, while consumer expectations remain negative.
LONDON, February 28, 2018 — European spending on smart city initiative related technologies is expected to reach $19 billion in 2018, according to International Data Corporation (IDC ). In the first release of the Worldwide Semiannual Smart Cities Spending Guide , IDC provides a detailed look at the technology investments associated with a range of smart city priorities and use cases. With European smart city initiatives going beyond early stage and isolated pilots, IDC expects spending to accelerate over the 2017–2021 forecast period, growing to $31 billion in 2021.
Johannesburg – The only way for today's chief information officer (CIO) to remain relevant and secure their seat at the boardroom table is by harnessing their business skills and suggesting ways for the organization to increase its effectiveness in the market through the use technology. According to Mark Walker, associate vice president of Sub-Saharan Africa at International Data Corporation (IDC), the assumption that the CIO automatically qualifies for a seat on the board and various management committees is no longer valid.
LONDON, February 20, 2018 — According to the latest figures published by International Data Corporation (IDC), the overall tablet market for Western Europe declined 13.1% YoY, shipping 10.6 million units in the fourth quarter of 2017 (2017Q4), indicating a continued weakening of the market. Slate tablets continue to be the primary driver of this market erosion, declining by 15.4% YoY, as their productive use cases pale in comparison to newer form factors, and they increasingly become relegated to simple media consumption devices. Detachable tablets have slowed down but continue to see traction in certain areas. They posted a minor 2.0% YoY decline, but thanks to increasing interest in premium devices, coupled with a very strong commercial performance of 8.5% YoY growth, the value of their sales (in euros) rose by 3.2%.
LONDON, February 16, 2018 — According to an International Data Corporation (IDC) Health Insights IT spending forecast report, IT spending by the Western European healthcare sector is forecast grow from $12.9 billion in 2016 to $14.1 billion in 2021. The CAGR is forecast at 1.9%, with growth slowed down by hardware (-0.9% CAGR), while software (4.9% CAGR) and IT services (1.6% CAGR) will grow at modest rates. Overall, the public healthcare segment continues to grow faster than private healthcare (2.0% vs. 1.6%) despite the high priority of cost-control initiatives in the agendas of European governments. Hospitals represent around 62% of total Western European healthcare IT spending, and that is expected to grow at 1.9% CAGR to 2021.
MILAN, January 31, 2018 — According to the inaugural Worldwide Semiannual Blockchain Spending Guide from International Data Corporation (IDC ), Western Europe will be the second largest region at a worldwide level, starting from around $200 million in 2017, including all the experimentation projects.
LONDON, January 22, 2018 — The Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) traditional PC market (desktops, notebooks, and workstations) recorded slight growth in the fourth quarter of 2017, with the market going positive (+1.2%) and totaling 20.9 million units, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). The commercial space grew 3.9% due to enterprise renewals and a strategic focus on mobility and security, while holiday season promotions and gaming increased volume in the consumer segment. Notebooks performed positively across EMEA (+2.1%) with very strong growth in MEA (+12.1%), continued growth in CEE (+1.8%), and stabilizing to flat in Western Europe. Once again, desktops have strengthened in EMEA and show positive signs toward stabilization (-0.8%) due to increased commercial demand across all regions.
LONDON, December 20, 2017 — International Data Corporation (IDC) today announced the appointment of Phevos Skalidis as research manager for IDC Energy Insights in Europe. Skalidis will work with vendors and end-user clients to address how technologies innovate and transform the energy and utility industry. LONDON, December 19, 2017 – According to the latest figures published by International Data Corporation (IDC), the Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden) Personal Computing Device (PCD) Market, including traditional PCs (a combination of desktop, notebook, and workstation) and tablets (slate and detachable) is expected to total 7.4 million shipments in 2018, a -4.2% YoY decline. Overall, the Nordics PC and tablet market will have a challenging year as traditional notebooks, desktops and slate tablets will continue their decline. However, SMBs are projected to drive the market in 2018 in the Nordic countries as IDC projects a larger renewal wave for this segment that will contribute to it outperforming the rest of the market, together with education as a secondary driver in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
LONDON, December 19, 2017 — According to the latest figures published by International Data Corporation (IDC), the Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden) personal computing device (PCD) market, including traditional PCs (a combination of desktop, notebook, and workstation) and tablets (slate and detachable), is expected to total 7.4 million shipments in 2018, a 4.2% YoY decline. Overall, the Nordic PC and tablet market will have a challenging year as traditional notebooks, desktops, and slate tablets continue their decline. However, SMBs are projected to drive the market in 2018 in the Nordic countries as IDC projects a larger renewal wave for this segment that will help it outperform the rest of the market, together with education as a secondary driver in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
LONDON, December 15, 2017 — EMEA purpose-built backup appliance (PBBA) vendor revenues remained nearly flat with growth of 0.4% year over year to reach $196 million in the third quarter of 2017, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Purpose-Built Backup Appliance Tracker.
LONDON, December 14, 2017 — Shipments of Western European Personal Computing Devices (PCD), including traditional PCs (a combination of desktops, notebooks and workstations) and tablets (slates and detachables), will total 79.7 million in 2017, a 2.1% YoY decline (-2.8% in 2018 with 77.5 million shipments). Convertibles, ultraslims, and detachables will continue to grow until at least 2021, representing 42.2% of the total PCD market by that time in comparison to 21.9% at the end of 2016. Traditional formats are lagging behind due to the shift to other form factors and the acceleration of mobility, where higher flexibility and versatility allows end users to adapt devices to their mobile needs, to easily carry their PCs around, and to use them anytime anywhere. Besides, the elegant designs and attractive price points will facilitate the decision to choose one of these devices. Nevertheless, there will be a big opportunity in the gaming field for traditional products, especially notebooks.
LONDON, December 6, 2017 — Total EMEA external storage systems value increased by a staggering 10.3% in U.S. dollars in the third quarter of 2017 (+4.8% in euro terms), according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) EMEA Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker, 3Q17.
FRANKFURT/LONDON, November 30, 2017 — According to a new EMEA xSP Market Model from International Data Corporation (IDC), 38% of all servers that landed in Western European service providers' datacenters in 2016 were purchased outside the region, mainly from the U.S. and Asian headquarters of multinational service providers with datacenters in Western Europe. IDC's Market Model looks at how EMEA service providers are consuming infrastructure, starting with servers.
LONDON, November 28, 2017 — IDC today announced the appointment of Chris Pennell as research director for IDC Government Insights in Europe. At IDC Government Insights, he will be responsible for working with vendors and end-user clients to understand how technologies are disrupting and transforming the delivery of public services by government agencies and education institutions.
LONDON, November 21, 2017 — According to research by International Data Corporation (IDC), the Western European printer and multifunction (MFP) market decreased by 3.2% in unit terms in 3Q17 compared with the same period a year ago. There were negative sales performances in both inkjet and laser markets for units, and value for the laser market was down too. The overall market has been in continuous decline since 2Q15, except for a hopeful last quarter — and in 3Q17 the quarter declined by 173,000 units to give a market of almost 5.1 million devices. This disappointing quarter is due to the decline in laser printing but is relatively in line with forecasts. Revenues fell by 11.4%. Inkjet revenues, however, increased 9.6% due to strong A3 sales, while laser revenues fell by 15.2%.
LONDON, November 14, 2017 — According to the latest figures published by International Data Corporation (IDC), the tablet market in Western Europe decreased 5.0% YoY this quarter. In total, 7.8 million devices were shipped in the region, which shows a slight weakening of the overall market. Nevertheless, the value of the sales in euros was better and the market remained fairly flat, with a slight decline of 0.1%.
LONDON, November 9, 2017 — IT spending for the SMB market in Western Europe is expected to reach $125.3 billion in 2017, with growth of 3.4% over 2016. According to a new study from International Data Corporation (IDC), IT spending will exceed $137 million by 2021, generating a 2.5% CAGR over the 2016–2021 forecast period. In Western Europe, IT spending by the SMB market represents a third of total spending. SMBs are the heart of the Western European economic structure, accounting for more than 99% of the business population and more than two-thirds of total employment.
The EMEA market for unified communications as a service (UCaaS) will expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27.4% during the 2017–2021 period, says the recently published EMEA Unified Communications-as-a-Service 2017–2021 Forecast from International Data Corporation (IDC). The forecast distinguishes two components in this market: applications and voice services. A large majority of UCaaS subscriptions in EMEA over the forecast period will be "applications only", but voice services will retain a decent market revenue share, thanks to the much higher average revenue per user. Both applications and voice are expected to grow by double-digit CAGRs between now and 2021.
Dubai – International Data Corporation (IDC) today launched the latest edition of IDC's DX Insights, a three-part magazine supplement aimed at making sense of the wave of digital transformation (DX) that is currently sweeping across the Middle East. Focusing on the theme 'Next-Gen Security – Defending the Digital World Against the Threats of Tomorrow', Issue 3 of the supplement was developed in collaboration with Dell EMC and accompanies this month's issue of Gulf Business magazine. It is also available to view now at www.idcdxinsights.com .
LONDON, November 2, 2017 — IDC Health Insights' new IDC MarketScape study assesses IT service providers catering to healthcare in Western Europe. The study, based on IDC's MarketScape model, evaluates nine vendors — Capgemini S.A., IBM, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, Accenture PLC, Dell Inc., Tieto Corporation, CGI Group Inc., and DXC Technology.
LONDON, October 20, 2017 — The Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) traditional PC market (desktops, notebooks, and workstations) was almost flat in the third quarter of 2017, with the market remaining slightly negative (-0.5%) and totaling 17.7 million units, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). The commercial space posted slight growth (0.1%) due to enterprise renewals and education deals, while holiday season promotions and gaming increased volume in the consumer segment. Notebooks performed positively across EMEA (+0.3%) with strong growth in CEE (+5.6%), though they remained negative for both MEA (-4.0%) and Western Europe (-0.1%). On the other hand, desktops were stronger in EMEA, eroding at a softer rate (-2.9%) with strong commercial demand across CEE (+8.0%).
FRANKFURT, October 19, 2017 — International Data Corporation's (IDC) EMEA Server Tracker shows that in the second quarter of 2017 the EMEA server market reported a year-on-year (YoY) increase in vendor revenues of 3.0% to $3.2 billion and a YoY increase of 1.2% in units shipped to 538,000. Looking at the EMEA market in euros, reported revenues in 2Q17 increased by 5.9% YoY. The top 5 vendors in EMEA and their revenues for the quarter are displayed in the table below.
LONDON, October 13, 2017 — According to a new study from International Data Corporation (IDC), IT spend in Western Europe will total $453.8 billion in 2017, a 2.7% increase compared with 2016. IT spending will continue to grow at a 2.0% five-year CAGR in 2021. Investments in 3rd Platform solutions and Innovation Accelerator technologies — such as augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR), artificial intelligence (AI) and cognitive, robotics, 3D printing, and Internet of Things (IoT) — will drive demand as companies strive to innovate, increase customer experience, and streamline business processes.
LONDON, September 27, 2017 — According to the latest figures published by International Data Corporation (IDC), the Western European Personal Computing Device (PCD) market, including traditional PCs (a combination of desktops, notebooks, and workstations) and tablets (slates and detachables), will total 79.2 million shipments in 2017, a 2.6% YoY decline. However, some products, such as convertibles, ultraslims, and detachables, will continue to expand until at least 2021, representing 43.3% of the total PCD market by then compared with 21.9% at the end of 2016. This is in line with the fact that users, from both consumer and commercial segments, are increasingly going for these thinner and lighter devices rather than traditional solutions. The traditional PC market will still decline over the next five years, whereas the tablet market will show some resilience and will stabilize during the coming years.
FRANKFURT/LONDON, September 21, 2017 — One in four IT organizations in Europe is already operating tiered applications spanning on- and off-premise environments. However, only a few pathfinders are making the necessary technology and process adjustments to make this viable in the long run, according to a recent IDC survey of more than 800 IT and line-of-business decision makers in 11 European countries.
LONDON, September 19, 2017 — Total EMEA external storage systems value fell by 2.9% in dollars in the second quarter of 2017 but remained fairly flat at -0.1% in euros, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) EMEA Quarterly Disk Storage Systems Tracker 2Q17.
MILAN, September 19, 2017 — According to a new IDC Energy Insights study, Western European utilities' total year-end IT spending is expected to reach $15.2 billion in 2017. The study, Western Europe Utilities Industry IT Spending 2016–2021 Forecast (IDC #EMEA41387717, August 2017), shows that electricity companies continue to take the largest share at 64.7% ($9.85 billion). The gas and water segments are considerably smaller but still important, and over the past couple of years they have taken a larger share of Western European utilities' IT spending.
LONDON, September 7, 2017 — A new study by International Data Corporation (IDC) discusses European consumers' attitudes toward adoption of personal finance management (PFM) solutions. The study, The Evolution of the Personal Finance Management Market (IDC #EMEA42964717, August 2017), is based on IDC's European Consumer Banking Survey, 2017. It highlights that the concept of a PFM solution has existed for a few years without ever reaching mainstream acceptance. However, it has always had backers in the consumer banking industry who see improved analytics capabilities as an opportunity to provide more value-adding information through PFM portals, view the mobile channel as a new way of reaching customers and building relationships, and think PFM will provide opportunities for cross-selling.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, Moscow — Consumer smartphone purchasing trends reflect the way that the average buyer uses his or her device. Networks with higher-speed internet are facilitating the mobile viewing experience, and buyers are increasingly opting for 4G phones with bigger screens. According to the Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker released by International Data Corporation (IDC), this is true in Russia.
LONDON, August 14, 2017 — According to research by International Data Corporation (IDC), the Western European printer and multifunction (MFP) market grew by 3.8% in unit terms in 2Q17 compared with the same period a year ago. There were positive sales performances in both inkjet and laser markets for units, but value for the laser market was actually down. The overall market has been in continuous decline since 2Q15 — and in 2Q17 the quarter increased by 173,000 units to give a market of almost 4.7 million devices. This stellar quarter is due to the surprising growth in consumer printing but is relatively in line with forecasts. Revenues, on the other hand, declined by 5.6%. Inkjet revenues, however, increased 1.5% while laser revenues fell by 6.9%.
LONDON, August 14, 2017 — According to the latest figures published by International Data Corporation (IDC), the tablet market in Western Europe posted just a 0.5% YoY contraction. In total, 7.0 million devices were shipped in the region, which shows an almost complete recovery of the market in the region. Apple's new tablets and the improvement of the macroeconomic situation in several countries were some of the drivers for 2017Q2 and were key to the further stabilization of the consumer segment. In general, detachables remained positive with 1.0% YoY growth and slate tablets showed resilience with a decrease of just 1.0% YoY.
LONDON, August 2, 2017 — IDC announces the release of a new IDC PlanScape, Implementing Cognitive Systems in Insurance Organizations (IDC #EMEA42877517), to help business and IT executives in insurance organizations (insurers and intermediary organizations) understand what cognitive systems are, why they are relevant, and how they can be used to improve customer experience, decision making, and operational efficiencies across various business functions. The study will help organizations build the business case and a road map to implement the technology.
London, August 2, 2017 — Quality continues to be a mission-critical initiative for manufacturers across products, manufacturing, supply chain, and service. Increasingly, as products, demands, and value chains become more complex, manufacturers are looking at quality more strategically to adopt an enterprise quality management view that encompasses each segment of quality in the organization. A new IDC PeerScape: Practices for Quality Management , outlines current implementations and best practices for quality management.
LONDON, July 20, 2017 – The Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) traditional PC market (desktops, notebooks and workstations) continued to improve in the second quarter of 2017, with a stable performance of -0.6%. A total of 15.9 million units were shipped, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). Notebooks performed positively across EMEA (+3.1%) with a strong growth in CEE (+5.2%) and MEA (+11.1%) and showing a further stabilization in Western Europe (+0.4%). The investments in public and private sectors in CEMA along with stronger economic confidence in major mature markets and back-to-school deals also fueled commercial notebooks, which grew 18.6% in CEMA and 3.0% in Western Europe. Consumer notebook shipments increased 3.5% in CEMA but showed a decrease of 2.0% in Western Europe. Overall desktop shipments continued to decline, posting an -8.3% decrease in EMEA. However, they returned to positive growth in CEE (+7.8%) after years of contraction, showing a strong performance in both consumer and commercial segments (+8.9% and +6.8%, respectively). Furthermore, the overall traditional PC market in CEE posted +6.1 growth 2017Q2, which, as the second quarter of growth, qualified as a recovery.
LONDON, July 20, 2017 — Higher education and academic research organizations in Europe are embracing digital transformation to innovate, while dealing with the pressure to control costs.
